Happy One Month Birthday, Emily!

Emily,

From Monthly Growing Photos

What an awesome last month of our lives! Where do I even start?!?! You have brought so much joy and many smile to our faces since you entered the world. Your dad and I totally love being your parents. It is amazing to care for you and just stare at you each day. It is a privilege to feed you and change all your diapers throughout the day.

Emmie, your dad and I think you are so beautiful! We love your sweet eyes when you are sleeping, your oh so soft skin, your bendable ears, your beautiful and delicate pink lips, your long eyelashes that are growing every day, your blue eyes, when you cross your eyes, your blond eyebrows, your cute nose, your chubby cheeks, your beautiful complexion, your cute little shoulder blades, your long fingers, your cute belly button, rolls forming at the top of your legs, your 10 little toes, your ticklish feet and your wild long hair. We say often that you look like an angel. Your dad's favorite place to kiss you is on your cheeks and lips. I love to kiss those sweet lips.

We have had such a fun month with you. We are proud to show you off to whoever will look and listen as we talk about you alot. When we take you somewhere, we are so gitty to get to bring you home with us. You are OUR'S and we don't have to be away from you long, since you live with us! In your first month, you met lots of people that love you unconditionally, you have been to church 4 times, wore a bow in your hair, lost your umbilical cord, ran errands with me, had your first babysitter, taken your first bottle, used your Baby Bjorn, gotten your social security number, attended playgroup, took your first overnight road trip, gone out to dinner, first Valentine's Day, been to a movie, had your heel pricked 4 times (it was very emotional for dad and I), had a slumber party with me because dad was gone for the night, have started drooling a little, your belly is getting wide because you are such an awesome eater, and you have grown out of your first 2 outfits (they were "up to 7 lbs" outfits). You are a great stretcher when you get up from your naps and you are released from your swaddle.

You have been a very easy baby and have spoiled us for sure. I love that when I come in to wake you up from a nap and I talk to you, you recognize my voice and you start squirming around. You have taken to a schedule very well so you are very predictable when it comes to needing to nurse. You love to put your hands in fist up by your face when you nurse. It is so cute! You are very consolable and if you need a little help settling down your dad is so great at rocking you just the way you like to be rocked so you will be more content. You are very flexible in that if we need to feed you at 2 hours or 5 hours during the day you can stretch (for times like church). You are an amazing sleeper at night. The past 3 nights you have slept anywhere from 5 hrs to 6 1/2 hrs, which is very uncommon at your age. You are a great pooper and fill many diapers a day, but also have managed to poop on dad and I both during changing your diaper.

More and more people are saying you look like your dad. Most of all, you have been a huge helper to me. I praise the Lord that you have relieved the 4 clogged milk ducts that I have gotten over the past week. It is amazing how God made us the perfect team.

Praise be to the Lord that He entrusted you to us for this past month!
It has been a privilege to be your mom!
To say "I love you" is not enough!
-Mommy

Growing Fast

We are having fun this week!

BIG NEWS: she slept 5 hours straight last night (from 11p-4a) it was AWESOME! I think I am finished waking her up after 4 hrs. of sleep now (as recommended for the first month in the Baby Wise book), so hopefully this sleep pattern will continue.

Here are some pix and funny stories:

From 2-16-09 Emmie's 3rd and 4th Weeks

This was my first time to have her fall asleep on her stomach while snuggling with me on the couch. What a precious moment!

From 2-16-09 Emmie's 3rd and 4th Weeks

On Wednesday, we went to lunch with Jeannie at Iz Too in Vestavia (my favorite lunch place). It was a treat for Emily to meet Jeannie and for us to get to catch up. Oh, I was late to meet Jeannie because Emmie had a humongous blow out as we were leaving playgroup. It was so big she went through 3 diapers and I ran out of wipes - continuing to tee tee as we (it took the help of 3 other friends also) were changing her - and also pooping all over my hand. She did the same thing to Jeremy on Sunday and she got it all over the changing pad and the carpet also. What a mess!

From 2-16-09 Emmie's 3rd and 4th Weeks

We needed to document this outfit because she is just about to grow out of it. (Take a look at her sleeves - a little short.) It is Jeremy's first favorite outfit of her's. We think she looks like a Dr. Seuss character.

2nd Doctor's Appointment

Today we went to see Dr. Gewin, her pediatrician. Emmie is growing great:
8 lb 9 oz (up from 7 lb 10 oz at birth) - in the 50%
21 inches (up from 20 in. at birth) - in the 60%
14 inches head cirm. (up from 13 1/4 at birth) - in the 40%
predicted height 5'4" (for girls he said the formula is - take the dad's height and subtract 6 inches, then take the average of the mom, I'm 5'2", and dad's, Jeremy is 6'1", heights and average them, then Emmie will be +/- 2 inches of that)

Emily also had to get her heel pricked and it was awful! Not once, not twice, not three times, but FOUR times (her left heel 2 times and her right heel two time) - she just didn't have the blood flowing, so it was TERRIBLE!
UPDATE - then on Wed. morning I realized she has bruises on both heels from them. It just didn't get any better.

She doesn't go back until she is 2 mo. - she will receive an immunization shot then.

Emmie's 3rd Week in the World

We have had a great week and it continues with more first.

Here is Emmie with her first crick in her neck. We had gone to playgroup with some friends and she conked out in the car. Now we have a smaller headrest that helps support her head even more.
This weekend we went to Chattanooga for Emily to meet her great-grandparents, Paw-Paw and Nanny, for the first time. Click here to see more picture of her aunts, uncles, and cousins that she also met for the first time. This was her first trip and also her first night sleeping for the night in her pack n play. She did awesome! She is still sleeping from 10p-3a and then again from 4a to about 7a or so. It is awesome and a huge blessing! She is spoiling us.

Friday night, while in Chattanooga, we went as a family out to dinner for Valentine's Day. We went to our favorite restaurant, Niko's (aka Southside Grill). I got to wear the dress that Jeremy gave me for Christmas 2008. Emmie just hung out in her carrier and didn't even make a peep.
Then on Sunday, we went to a movie and Emily went with us. She did awesome! Jeremy used my cell phone (the light on it) to check on her and she stayed asleep the whole time. What a treat!

After the movie, Jeremy ran into Wal-mart to get some more newborn diapers (since the #1s are still too big) and he just had to pick her up a sweet, cute outfit. Here she is modeling it for us. Good job, Jeremy!

More of Emily's First: Days 9-14

We have had a great first week at home. At night, it is great to just have the 3 of us snuggling on the couch and watching American Idol, Brothers and Sisters, etc. We also love to snuggle with her in the bed. Emmie is such a joy. We also started her on a daily schedule so she eats around 7a, 10a, 1p, 4p, 7p, (bath every other day at 9:30p), and 10p. Then at night she is eating every 3-5 hours. A schedule must totally be her style because she has totally taken to it. It is so helpful for me to be able to plan my days knowing when her eating times are. I am also trying to take a nap during 2-4p each day.

Monday, Emily and I ran errands for the first time to Walgreen, the postoffice, and the library. We were also blessed by Danielle and her family, in our Sunday School class, bringing us dinner. Tuesday, we met Jeremy and had Emmie's newborn pictures taken and then ate lunch together.

Tummy Time!

Wednesday, I had a big outing (ha-ha) and went to the grocery store. That afternoon I started giving her 5 min. of tummy time and she did great. We were also blessed that evening with another meal from our Sunday School class by Krisalyn. That night, Diana and Tate ate dinner with Emmie and I, since Jeremy and Jason we out to dinner with a friend. Then I gave Emily a bath, which was my first time. She did well.

My first day to wear a bow (made by Aunt Jen - her Little One Orig. Business)

Thursday, we went to the breastfeeding support group here in Pelham (sponsored by Brookwood Hospital). They weighed her and she is back up to her birth weight of 7 ob. 10 oz. and she also took in 2 oz. of milk while nursing. Then we went to see Dr. Ross and his staff to let him meet her, since he didn't deliver her. It was also her first day to wear a bow. Aunt Jen sent them to her and Emmie looked precious. I also got a pix of this funny face she makes - raising her eyebrows, wrinkling her forehead, and stretching out her eyelids so they don't have any wrinkles in them. I love it and have been trying to get a pix of it for awhile.

Mommy loves it when she raises her eyebrows and tightens her eyelids.

Friday, we just slept in until 9am and hung out at home all day. She also slept 5 hours last night (for the 3rd night in a row). It was awesome and maybe this will become a trend. The Hipp's brought us dinner and we got to hang out with them. Saturday, Jeremy gave Emmie a bottle for the first time. We also went to Wal-mart and Jeremy carried her in the Baby Bjorn.

More of Emily's First: Days 5-8 and Facebook Status

First...Here is our angel! This is what she wore to church yesterday.
From 1-30-09 Emily's 2nd Week

Stories I forgot to tell from the hospital:

1. The nurse had come to get Emmie to take her to the ped. for the first time. After Emmie left, Jeremy went out into the hall to get some snacks from the kitchen and her heard the nurse wheeling her down the hall saying "Come on hairy". This is because she didn't have anything on her bed except for a pink card that said "Long". too funny since she has all this hair!

2. We loved having all the friends and family come up to the hospital, but I think we broke a new record of 36 visitors on Sunday. It didn't seem like that many, but wow - we are blessed!

More Firsts for Emmie:

On Thurs, we went to the Brookwood Breastfeeding Support Group here in Pelham. It was helpful to get some tips and also weigh Emily. She is up 2 oz. from when she left the hospital.

From 1-24-09 Emily's 1st Week

She went shopping with mom and I on Thurs. We went to Old Time Pottery and then Hobby Lobby.

From 1-24-09 Emily's 1st Week

She enjoyed her first time in her bouncie.
(photo to come)

Emily had her first doctor's appt. with Dr. Gewin in Cahaba Heights on Friday. He said she was healthy. Her heart sounded great. Her ears looked good. Her softspot was perfect. He said that her paperwork from the hospital on her first heel prick was good. Her thyroid and PKU results were good. She goes back in about 2 weeks for another heel pricking. so sad!

From 1-24-09 Emily's 1st Week

Friday night, Jeremy and I got to go on our first day and she had her 1st babysitters. My parents are still in town, so they babysat while we went to eat Mexican and then went on a Wal-mart trip. We missed her, but enjoyed being out.
From 1-30-09 Emily's 2nd Week

Saturday night, I had my 1st Realization - (conversation with Mom) "We can go to dinner at 6p. (pause) oh, I guess I need to figure out what time I need to feed Emily." (laughing because I forgot about nursing her)

We went to church on Sunday. It took us 15 min. to get into the Sanctuary and then we were the last ones to leave when the service was over. We are blessed by so much love. Jeremy said he felt like he was with a rock star. :)

One Week Tribute to Emily

Sweet Emily,

Where do I even begin? To think back to last Saturday, I didn't even know you then. That floods my heart with joyous emotions. How my life will forever be changed in feeling an unconditional love for you. You have brought joy to us that I have never know. I am so honored to be your mom and that the Lord has intrusted you to me. WOW - what a heavy heart I have to be an example of what the Lord requires of girls and women. I am up for the challenge, but I can not do it without the Lord working through me.

Your features are beautiful! You have a head FULL of long brown hair. It is so long that it is going down your neck in the back. Your neck is so kissable too with sweet little wrinkles. You have your daddy's nose and sweet little dimples on either side of your lips. You make us laugh already. You have very expressive faces. My favorite face is when your eyes are closed, you raise your eyebrows and your eyelids tighten with no wrinkles. It is so cute. You have the sweetest streaches. Your whole body shakes when you have the hiccups. You also smile even when you are sleep. What do you dreaming about - your paci, boobs, daddy or I?

You are an awesome sleeper. You eat every 3 hours and fall asleep soon after that until your next feeding. We are so spoiled with you being an angel. You give us 5 hours in between feeding at night - WOW how nice.

Your dad has been amazing with you. He LOVES to snuggle with you in the bed. He is a pro at soothing you IF you cry. He loves to give you your baths, take you on walks in the neighborhood, and he is so helpful at changing your diaper (even the poopie ones) and burps you after I nursing. Most of all, he has encouraged us to read Scripture and pray for you each night, since we have been home. It is such an emotional time and sweet time for us as a family. I thank God that you have such a Godly dad and I have such a Godly husband that has taken the responsibility as spiritual leader in our home.

Emily, we are so grateful that the Lord blessed us with a sweet, angel daughter.

I love you!
Mommy
