P.S. I did feel the baby kick for the first time with my hand last night (around 8pm). Very cool! I know it was perfect timing with the baby being close to the skin, kicking, and my hand happening to be there, but still a sweet treat.

This past weekend lots of new baby things have been going on...
1) We were hanging out on Friday night and Jen had a gift for us (and our baby). They are appliqued onesies that are a brand new line in her business Little One Originals. She also gave Jeremy a Horton Hears a Who onesie - he loves Dr. Seuss books.
2) My mom and sister also went with me to register at Babies R Us on Saturday morning. I could not have done it without them - they were a huge help. It was so much fun to dream!
3) Also on Saturday afternoon, Chad helped us to embed our ultrasound video in our blog post from last week, so take a look below.
4) I also felt the baby kick 2 times for the first time Monday night:
-(5:45p Monday) I was laying on the couch just resting after we got home from Memphis and it was really low
-(9:15p Monday) then I was slouched on the couch with my feet on the coffee table checking email and I felt something up by my bellybutton. Jeremy was sitting next to me, so he tried to feel it too, but of course it stopped again until 10:45 the next morning.
Here are some intersting facts on our baby from babycenter.com "Head to rump, your baby is approximately 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. If you're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. (so cool!) If you're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, although he may hide them from you during an ultrasound."

17 week ultrasound
17 Week Ultrasound from Michelle Long on Vimeo.
We went to the dr. today and it was such a blessing. The ultrasound tech, Lee, measured the brain, heart, liver, bladder, femur, and more saying that it all looked great. Praise God and an answer to our prayers. We could see the brain lobes, ribs, heart beating, hands, arm bones, legs, eyes, and feet while Baby Long was moving all over the screen. She said Baby Long weighs 8 ounces right now and is measuring 1 week ahead of schedule. She did say that the placenta is on the interior wall of the uterus, so Dr. Ross thinks I should be able to feel the baby moving within the next few weeks. This will be very fun. My next appointment is in 4 weeks, Sept. 18.

Peru Mission Trip
"How are you all doing? School started today and so our summer has officially come to an end. But not the heat though!! We haven't had a good rain at all and it's been really hot. Even the locals are complaining, so you know it's hot. Hopefully we will get a good rain soon. How are you? Are you all back into the swing of life in the States? We miss playing smatchet with you guys. We haven't played since you left. Could you let Michelle Long know that Monica had her baby today. The baby is premature, but is doing fine. They will have to stay in the
hospital for a while.
We have a prayer request to share with you. Ryan was asking about any needs we might have, and we couldn't think of anything when he was here. Well, after you guys left and I started getting ready for school, I found out that our copier at the school has completely bit the dust. Of all the equipment well, maybe excluding ceiling fans) that the school has, the copier is the most used and necessary for the function of the everyday school operations. Since we only have 11 students this year, but with still all of the costs of running the school, (such as electricity, workers, etc.) the school budget is very tight. If it is possible, could you let this prayer request be known? Kyle is looking into prices of copiers, most likely we need to get one from Lima.
Thank you.
Once again, thank you so much for being such a blessing to us. You all mean a lot to us.
A big hug,
Minori for John, Amy and Kenji too."

We are getting closer to the half way point. I can't believe it. We go this Wed. at 1p for our big ultrasound, but it won't be as big since we are NOT going to find out what we are having. I just love, love, love surprises, so I just can't do it. January 2009 will be here soon enough.
Here is what babycenter.com says is going on this week: "Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop. The patterning of her scalp has begun, though her locks aren't recognizable yet. She's even started growing toenails. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds."

Here is what BabyCenter.com says for this week: "Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length . Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. Your baby's heart pumps 25 quarts of blood a day."

Here is what BabyCenter.com said about little one this week: "Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam."

Here is what BabyCenter.com said this week: "Welcome to the second trimester! This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb. Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. "

I get an email each week from BabyCenter.com and it is interesting, so I thought some of you might like reading it too: "Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce. "
This is an amazing week of development to me! FINGERPRINTS, already! I was in awe that if it is a girl that she has all (ALL) of her eggs.
